Homemade Marmalade Recipe

This recipe for Homemade Marmalade is a delicious way to enjoy oranges and lemons. It's ideal for spreading on toast or topping yogurt or oatmeal with. Depending on the size of your jars, this recipe makes 6-8 jars of marmalade.

Ingredients

Time Needed

  • Prep Time: 30 minutes
  • Cook Time: 3 hours
  • Total Time: 3 hours, 30 minutes

Instructions

  • The oranges and lemons should be washed and scrubbed.
  • Remove the seeds from the oranges and lemons and cut them into thin slices.
  • Pour the water over the slices in a large pot.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to a low heat and continue to cook for about 2 hours, or until the fruit is soft.
  • Remove from the heat and set aside to cool slightly.
  • Puree the mixture in a food processor until it has a smooth consistency.
  • Return the mixture to the pot and stir in the sugar until it dissolves.
  • Bring the mixture back to a boil, then reduce to a low heat and allow it to simmer for 30-45 minutes, or until it thickens and reaches a jelly-like consistency.
  • Place a small amount of the mixture on a plate and set it aside to cool.
  • It is ready if it sets.
  • Remove from the heat and set aside for a few minutes to cool.
  • Fill sterilized jars halfway with the marmalade and allow to cool completely before sealing.
